Annapolis City Dock/Bulkhead and Boardwalk Replacement, Phase 1

Located in the heart of Annapolis’ historic district, the Annapolis City Dock bulkhead and boardwalk design and replacement project was high-profile and required careful and extensive coordination between the City of Annapolis, key organizations, businesses, and government agencies. EBA was the project designer for the replacement of the entire bulkhead, boardwalk, and multiple piers, as well as reconstruction of Susan Campbell Park.

EBA had to expedite the design and permitting process while still ensuring that the project could be designed and constructed in time for the City’s tri-centennial celebration. EBA also coordinated with several experienced marine contractors during the design process to collect valuable feedback on constructability, availability and cost of materials, and construction sequencing and expected durations. This early-on coordination with the contractors ensured a design that could be constructed prior to the deadline and within the City’s already established and approved budget for the project.

Despite considerable challenges, including the majority of the work having to be performed during the winter, Phase I of the project was completed ahead of schedule and within budget. The project received the Maryland American Society of Civil Engineers Outstanding Small Project Award.
