Main Gate Design and ICESat Road Reconstruction
EBA has provided staff augmentation for civil engineering and other professional services at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center’s Facilities Management Division since 2000. This task order involved geotechnical engineering, surveying, civil engineering, and construction administration for reconstruction of the existing ICESat Road (south gate) into the flight center.
EBA’s geotechnical investigation included soil borings to a 10-foot depth for sample collection, followed by laboratory testing, analysis, and geotechnical report preparation. The 13 borings were for the parking areas, road widening, stormwater management (SWM), and field infiltration tests.
Civil engineering work included preparing preliminary through final (35%, 95%, and 100%) construction documents. Activities involved initial field investigation, existing condition assessments, and data collection, as well as meetings, reviews, and coordination for required permits.
Final documents included roadway/parking lot design and layout, typical section and road profile, maintenance of traffic plans, pavement markings and signage, roadway and striping details, and specifications; erosion and sediment control (ESC) plan, storm drain design, and SWM computations, report, and details; and Maryland Department of the Environment ESC/SWM approval.
