Dulles Corridor Metrorail, Phase 2A
EBA provided quality control inspection and testing services for the 11.4-mile extension of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s (WMATA) Silver Line. Extending from Fairfax County through Dulles International Airport to Loudon County, this extension will provide daily commuters and airport travelers with a direct connection to/from Washington, DC.
The project created at-grade guideway and rail systems in the medians of both Dulles International Airport Access Highway and Dulles Greenway, along with six passenger stations in Fairfax County and Loudoun County and at Dulles International Airport. Each station construction included pedestrian bridges, entry pavilions, access roadways, surface parking, and bus facilities. Construction of wayside facilities included traction power stations, tie-breaker stations, and stormwater management ponds along the alignment.
EBA developed the construction quality management plan and procedures, as well as inspection and testing plans; managed and staffed an on-site, ASSHTO-accredited laboratory for concrete and soils testing; and performed inspections of bridges, roadways, utilities, retaining walls, noise barriers, rail guideway and systems elements, stormwater management ponds, and maintenance of traffic.
