Design of an In-line Trash Net System

A system of in-line nets was proposed to capture trash from a 320-acre drainage area at Smith Cove in Baltimore before the trash was washed into the Middle Branch of the Patapsco River. To design the system, the team needed to determine how much water and trash would be produced during various stormwater runoff events, as well as the structural requirements for retrofitting the existing culvert system to capture the most trash.

EBA surveyed the drainage area to characterize site conditions and developed a hydrologic model to determine how the upstream drainage would impact the proposed in-line trash net and the existing culvert systems.
