EBA Engineering Accepts MdQI Modal Award of Excellence

EBA Engineering, Inc., received a Modal Award of Excellence (under $5M) at the Maryland Quality Initiative (MdQI) awards ceremony, held on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at Martin’s Valley Mansion in Baltimore, Maryland. Since 1994, MdQI’s annual event has celebrated Maryland transportation projects demonstrating excellence in design, innovation, safety, and community benefit.

The award recognized EBA’s work on the $6.4 million US 1 Rhode Island Avenue Trolley Trail project, located in College Park and completed for the Maryland State Highway Administration. The project involved the construction of a new 10-foot-wide, half-mile-long ADA-compliant shared-use path and landscaped buffer along northbound US 1, from just south of Farragut Street to Charles Armentrout Drive.

Sited in a densely populated area near the University of Maryland, the new trail fills a critical gap in both the Anacostia Tributary Trail system and the East Coast Greenway to enhance pedestrian and bicycle connectivity. In addition to the newly paved trail and ADA-compliant features, the project included a lane reduction on northbound US 1, upgraded pavement markings, new signage, and pedestrian lighting. These improvements align with Maryland’s Vision Zero goals by reducing conflict points and promoting safer, more accessible travel for users, while improving connections to mass transit, art and historic districts, and surrounding communities.

“EBA is incredibly proud to receive this MdQI Award of Excellence, which reflects the dedication and talent of our entire team,” said Pranoy Choudhury, Chief Operating Officer at EBA Engineering, Inc. “This recognition is especially meaningful, because it highlights the real impact our work has on communities. I also applaud Project Engineer DJ Gizaw, PE, who played a pivotal role in the project’s success. His leadership, technical expertise, and commitment to quality were key to delivering a safe, accessible, and thoughtfully designed trail for pedestrians and cyclists alike.”
