Project of the Year Award

The Pennsylvania Department of Health Environmental Health Indicators (EHI) Online Application received EBA’s 2025 Project of the Year Award.

This project expanded the Department of Health’s existing Environmental Health Indicators mapping platform by delivering a custom solution that enhances public access to environmental health data across Pennsylvania. The project included developing a custom Esri Web AppBuilder widget that extends the application’s Near Me functionality by allowing additional input parameters and generating detailed, downloadable reports. The application is publicly available through the Pennsylvania Department of Health website and can be accessed by the public online at Department of Health | Department of Health | Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

The solution integrates GIS technology, ArcGIS APIs, and Python-based geoprocessing services to produce interactive reports featuring maps, symbology, and infrastructure details. The project team also delivered documentation, a user guide, and deployment support in close collaboration with Department of Health staff.

This innovative application demonstrates EBA’s ability to combine technical expertise with meaningful public impact, providing residents and decision-makers with improved tools to better understand environmental health conditions. Team members recognized for their contributions include Richard DeBell, Yousif Malik, and Michael Mattaini.

Selection Criteria

The Employee of the Year Award is based on an individual’s contributions to internal processes, collaboration, innovation, customer support, and overall effort.

Project of the Year nominees are evaluated on factors including innovation, scope, complexity, social and environmental relevance, and overall project significance.
