EBA Engineering Receives ACEC National Recognition Award

EBA received a National Recognition Award in the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) 2025 Engineering Excellence Awards competition for the firm’s work on the District Department of Transportation’s Lane Place Pedestrian Bridge Emergency Replacement project. EBA president and CEO Rizwan Siddiqi, PE; EBA assistant vice president Redha Hasan, PE; EBA and senior construction manager Farshid Faramarzi, PE accepted the award at ACEC’s annual Gala Dinner and Awards Program, held Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in downtown Washington, DC.

ACEC’s Engineering Excellence Awards competition recognizes the year’s most outstanding engineering achievements. The winning projects, selected by a panel of industry, government, and academic experts, reflect engineering ingenuity that addresses complex challenges while benefitting both the industry and greater community at large.

EBA provided construction management and inspection services for the Lane Place bridge replacement, required when the original collapsed after a truck collision. The project restored a vital pedestrian crossing over southbound DC 205 near Lane Place NE to reconnect the Kenilworth, Eastland Gardens, and Deanwood neighborhoods in northeast DC.

In addition to having a higher elevation that will decrease the likelihood of a future accident, the new bridge offers better lighting, ADA-compliant accessibility, and fresh landscaping. Complexities of the $10.7 million project included a severely limited work area, residential proximity, noise mitigation, and an accelerated schedule. Through significant upfront planning and scheduling, the use of advanced mobile apps, and ongoing interaction with multiple stakeholders, EBA helped deliver the project 17 days ahead of schedule. The new bridge provides a safer, more aesthetically pleasing connection for residents to mass transit, local businesses, churches, community services, and each other.

“We are grateful to have been a part of this meaningful project, which contributes so much to DC residents. We also commend DDOT and appreciate their partnership with us to restore and improve this vital pedestrian connection in DC,” says Mr. Siddiqi. “We also appreciate ACEC’s recognition of our devoted construction management and inspection team who represent EBA’s deep commitment to our clients, the engineering industry, and local communities.”
