Celebrating Women in Construction – Robin Jankowiak

Since Robin Jankowiak graduated from EBA’s construction management and inspection trainee program, she has hit the ground running. She’s now a busy construction inspector for EBA’s Construction Management and Inspection Division. But she did pause to answer our 10 questions in celebration of Women in Construction Week.

Where are you from?
Baltimore, Maryland

What do you do for EBA?
I am a construction inspector. Right now I am performing materials testing for quality control on projects in Baltimore City.

What inspired you to pursue a career in construction?
I wanted a career that would allow me to be outdoors a lot. I enjoy working in the field with EBA’s survey crews and inspection teams. I also knew that a career in construction would offer great benefits and a secure future.

How long have you worked in the construction field?
In June it will be 4 years.

What’s the most interesting project you are currently working on?
I am currently assigned to the Central Avenue Streetscape and Bridge project in Baltimore City. Watching a bridge being built from the ground up is very interesting. You drive over bridges all the time, but you never know how much work it takes to build them!

What is your favorite thing about your job?
The hours are great for me and my family. But my favorite thing is the opportunity to work with some amazing people.

What are you most proud of so far in your career?
I’m most proud of the certifications I have accomplished in the short time I’ve been here. I began taking courses and working toward certifications in EBA’s construction management and inspection trainee program. Once I graduated, the company has continued to support my training and professional development.

When you aren’t at work, what are you most likely doing?
Shooting pool and taking care of my baby.

Why is construction a good career choice?
It’s a great career choice! In addition to the opportunity to work on many interesting projects, you are almost always guaranteed a job.

What advice do you have for encouraging the next generation of women in construction?
Don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty or think that construction is a man’s field. It’s a great way to show that women can do anything men can do!
